The call to be an inspirational speaker lives deep within my bones. I am a Sagittarius. Optimism and motivation pretty much are part of my DNA. I also have a deep well of perseverance and inner strength that I have learned to tap into time and time again. These characteristics, qualities, and life lessons have carried me through very difficult times.
I have also discovered that when I share my truth and my stories, it inspires and motivates those close to me. I am the one friends and colleagues come to when they need a boost in motivation, adjusted outlook on life, etc.
In turn, knowing I can use my past experiences and stories to help others feel better, makes me feel better. Like everything I went through had a purpose. I love helping others like yourself unleash your full potential, and be unapologetically you in your pursuit of what makes YOU happy.
I plan to share my stories and thoughts here on this blog. You may agree, you may become inspired, or you may have a different viewpoint. That is okay. It’s my hope this blog helps you understand how living your life to your full potential is important to this world. You have so much to give to others. But first, you need to start within. You need to foster immense self-love and self-care for yourself FIRST. Yes, that is right. I said you need to put yourself first. It’s that whole pouring from a full or empty cup analogy.
Before you go and close the tab on this browser – let me just share that it is possible. I have been there. I say this because I am a self-recovered people pleaser and do-gooder. I would put everyone ahead of my own needs. There was a time in my life that this served its purpose. But not anymore. Today, the first 2 – 3 hours of my day are doing the things I want to do. Filling my cup first by waking up with a daily meditation practice, journaling, a warm cup of coffee, and some blog writing. Perhaps this doesn’t sound fun for you. Perhaps what fills you up is going for a walk/run, hitting the gym, going for a a dip in the ocean, taking a hot shower. Whatever it is. Do it. I always thought it was crazy that my Mom would wake up at 4 AM and her silly routine included drinking coffee, watching the news, going for a drive with her friend, all before her workday started at 6 AM. Now I get it. She was doing her best to put herself first before giving to others. She was filling her cup.
Yeah, there will be times when life is hard and this will be difficult to control. By making yourself a priority, starting your day by doing something for yourself, and loving yourself first, you are setting yourself up to win.
So what is the first step you can take to put yourself first and fill up that cup?
