Spark and Hustle Blog Post 2 – Let Your Sparkle Show

Spark and Hustle Sparkle Show - JO Social Branding

In my last post I talked about how I found sisterhood at the Spark and Hustle Celebration. Now I want to share my takeaways and highlight the special ladies I met, their missions and how they ‘bring it’, and let their sparkle show, every single day.

Tory Johnson “Wild about promoting small businesses & women’s health/wealth. Obsessed with my weekly Good Morning America segments. Proud of my #1 NYT bestseller, THE SHIFT.”

I cannot speak enough about how inspiring and down to earth this woman is. Visit her site to read her story and the obstacles she overcame on her path to success.

What is amazing is that she didn’t let those obstacles slow her down. She learned from them, then turned them around so others could learn and benefit too.

What is inspiring about Tory is she wants everyone around her to be successful. Being a GMA correspondent and Spark and Hustle Founder that is a very extensive social group. Yet she makes you feel like you are the only one and if you need to drop a line to get in touch, she is there. YES! She said that, I heard it with my own ears. But not only that, I have experienced it. A personal thank you email to my last blog post opened up a conversation between us – which made my Spark and Hustle experience THAT much more amazing.

It is hard to believe people like this exist, but they do and Tory is living proof. So watch her segments on GMA, buy the products she is pitching, attend a Spark and Hustle event or buy her book, The Shift’. Tory is not paying me to say this, I just believe that much in what she is doing and has to offer.

Coach Jenn Lee“Rockin’ Small Biz Strategist TV Contributor Cute High Energy Curly Hair Speaker #SparkandHustle Cheerleader.”

Coach Jenn is also deeply invested in Spark and Hustle and in a way is Tory’s second in command. She also responded to my post as well, sharing that it made her cry. Actually this doesn’t seem too difficult of a task, because she had many tears (of joy) at Spark and Hustle this past weekend. You know what this says? She cares.

Not only does she care, but her demeanor is infectious. You know that person who is a ball of energy and they walk into a room and command it? This is Coach Jenn Lee. She makes connections and ultimately wants everyone to be the best that they can be. I met and heard a few of her successful clients, speak to her credibility of boosting their business. I can understand why. She will give you the advice, tools and connections, but you better be committed to make it happen. Stephanie and I had a wonderful chat with Coach Jenn, she even taught us the right way to take a selfie.

“Hold up and point down, Hold up and point down….these youngins just don’t know how to do it…”

Jill Donovan – Rustic Cuff “Designer and lover of all things Cuffs.”
Jill didn’t speak at this conference, however she was the guest speaker at the first event I went too. At this event, she was there and introduced her daughter who sang a beautiful rendition of Corrine Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Record On“. Jill, a lawyer by trade, found she wasn’t happy with her career choice. One night she woke up and taught herself how to make metal cuff bracelets (through YouTube) and that is how she started her business Rustic Cuff. Now her custom creations are worn by celebrities everywhere. At my first event every attendee got a free bracelet as a takeaway. I was immediately hooked. I bought them for Christmas presents and bought my own just a couple weeks before this event. I shared a photo through Instagram, that I would be wearing it at this Spark and Hustle event. Guess who remembered that Instagram photo when I went up to her, and showed her my bling? YES!

Before Spark and Hustle in Boston I never knew of Rustic Cuff. Now I LOVE their stuff. I would buy every piece if I could. I didn’t have a chance to talk to Jill in Boston, but I did in Atlanta and would like to think the conversation we had about teenagers and finding their confidence made her day a little brighter. You see, she was nervous for her shy daughter to sing at this event. I shared with Jill how theater helped me find my confidence and allowed me to come out of my shell. The fact that her daughter got in front of a room of 500+ women and sang is huge. When I shared this with her, she had a huge smile and I could tell I made her day a little brighter, just like her jewelry does for me.

Britt Reints – Happiness Coach“The czar of happiness.”

Britt was this cute little ball of energy that approached us the night before at dinner, because she was concerned she was in the wrong hotel. Turns out the Highland Games were hosted at our hotel at the same time. There were MANY Scottish and Irish men walking around in kilts the night before. Throughout the night, Britt kept bopping by us with new groups of women bringing them to an impromptu cocktail hour in the hotel restaurant. That night, Stephanie, my mentor and friend who accompanied me, cyber-stalked Britt. Actually we learned a new term at Spark and Hustle and that is “strategically stalking with excellence. We learned Britt is a happiness coach based in Pittsburgh. She spreads her cheer and inspiration to help individuals. We kept bumping into her throughout the event and she became a friendly and familiar face to share the experience with. To get a better picture of what Britt has to offer watch her TEDx Talk on how to create your own manual for happiness.

Deborah Gilboa aka Dr. G “Family doc, mom (4 boys!). Int’l speaking & writing on real life parenting; Get the #BehaviorYouWant!  & HuffPost”

Dr. G was with Britt when they approached us at dinner. Little did we know there was a doctor – and speaker in the house! Dr. G was at Spark and Hustle to talk about how she uses one minute YouTube videos to propel her doctor practice. She is a pediatric doctor with 4 boys and uses video marketing to answers questions to mothers’ concerns in her 1 minute weekly update. I like to call her the female Dr. Oz of Pittsburgh. Visit her site to learn more. Here is one example of her short and relevant informational videos.

Rachel Luna – “Best Selling Author, Speaker+Coach I wrote a book about C.R.A.P. and it’s life changing! http:/bit.ly/lunabook” Rachel was one of the more vivacious speakers. To give you an idea, she walked on stage to Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” song. Rachel spoke to the crowd about how it is easy to be a one hit wonder, like Right Said Fred. The difference between being a one hit wonder and a legend is consistency. There was even an exercise to stand up and scream “I am a Legend, argh!” Rachel’s also talked about taking charge of your to do list. She spoke at how easy it is to become overwhelmed at a long list. If you think about breaking down your projects or goals into doable items, it becomes manageable. Once again paraphrasing, “Maybe you want to run a conference like this and have 1,000 attendees. You have to start somewhere. Host a small event with 10, then ask them to bring a guest or 10 more, and you will slowly get there.” By breaking tasks or goals into smaller steps it makes the project easier to obtain.

I apologize if I left anyone out, there were many that I chatted and spoke with who inspired me. This was just a small subset of the spectacularly, fabulous women that make up the Sisterhood of Spark and Hustle.
